Care home celebrates Chinese New Year in style

Staff and residents at Plas y Dderwen Care Home in Johnstown, Carmarthen welcomed in the Year of the Dragon with a day of celebrations and activities.

Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, the dining room was decorated with hanging Chinese symbols. Residents learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year.

The residents took part in a Chopstick Challenge during the day where they had to transfer fruit and chocolate from one plate to another using chopsticks.

Chef Hefin Daniels cooked up an oriental feast for supper and residents enjoyed the delicious food served with prawn crackers.

Lisa Peart, the Activities Co-ordinator at Plas y Dderwen, dressed up as a Dragon and did a special dance throughout the dining room to Chinese Music.

Sharon Herbert, Senior General Manager of Barchester’s Plas y Dderwen Care Home said: “We have had a brilliant day, the home looks absolutely wonderful decorated all in red and we all had such fun finding out what animal we are, the associated traits and reading each other’s horoscopes.”
