THE SLEEPY town of Mynyddcerrig, near Pontyberem is being put well and truly on the the map with the first ever live music festival Mynyddfest.
Plans are taking place to bring Mynyddcerrig alive for a long weekend during 11th to 14th of July 24, with the first ever live music festival featuring local bands, local artists and local musicians and local food and drink.
As well as experiencing some of the best live music South Wales has to offer, ticket holders will have the opportunity to take part in various workshops.
These powerful workshops include Shamanic journey workshop, sound bath and inner dance all included in the ticket.
Mynyddfest is a partnership between Awakened Gatherings Ltd and Wheelhouse Audio Events, and is providing opportunities for local businesses and charities to introduce the public to their services and wares.
The idea to create a festival was the brainchild of Lee Morris of Wheelhouse Audio Events. Lee tells us “After a chance stumble across Kathy’s page, I was interested in seeing the land with a view to holding a small music festival on the stunning land.
“We got together and started planning, we wanted it to be something for everyone like a very mini version of Glastonbury, and so Mynyddfest was born,”
Kathy Sanderson of Awakened Gatherings Ltd based in Mynyddcerrig, says. “We are so excited to bring this amazing festival to Mynyddcerrig, to be able to showcase local talent and businesses and to bring happiness and joy to all. I love that we are opening our live music with Samba Doc which is just gonna bring those beautiful festival vibes.
“We are a small intimate festival which makes it ideal for those, like my children, who struggle in large crowds too, as well as increasing the community feel, which is what we are all about, oh and you can camp with us for free too!
“We have so much to offer, there is something for everyone!”
The festival will include, live music from folk to metal, healing workshops, music workshops, kids entertainment, forest school, alternative therapies, stalls from local artisans and alternative therapists.
You’ll be kept busy all 4 days if that’s what you choose, or you can just sit back and enjoy listening to the sounds around you. For those who fancy some peace and quiet you can also escape into the woods at the festival too and just reconnect with nature.
Local Singer/Songwriter Gemma Krysa says ‘Im especially excited to be asked to play at the first MynyddFest. Fantastic line up, sharing the stage with some great musicians. Can’t wait!’
Mynyddfest is also supporting upcoming local talent with their open mike competition, where you have the opportunity to win back the cost of your ticket. They also have free music workshops for those of you who’d like to try playing an instrument for the first time.
