Ammanford Post Office will reopen soon to the delight of many

AMMANFORD POST OFFICE is to reopen next month after a year of being closed, to the delight of many in the town.

The Post Office building on Quay Street closed in November 2021, due to operational reasons, before plans were being made for a new use of the premises.

Initially, plans were sent to Carmarthenshire County Council to open up a hot food takeaway at the rear of the building.

The building, which contained two flats in addition to the Post Office, was then put up for sale, going for £325,000.

The reason given for the intended sale was that the previous owners looked to relocate from Ammanford, having owned the property since 2008.

However, the Post Office service is to return to Ammanford town centre, operating at the same premises on Quay Street, reopening at 1pm on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 17.

Once it is opened up again, the new service will be offering a range of Post Office products and services.

Many have welcomed the news that Post Office services will be returning to the town, after serious concerns were expressed when the branch closed.

The MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr said: “This is excellent news for the community as I know the Post Office has been sorely missed by so many of my constituents.

“The Post Office, located in the centre of town is for many a place to go to socialise as well as using the services available.

“Research shows that Post Offices are especially crucial for vulnerable groups, including the elderly and people on low incomes.

“With the cost-of-living crisis having an effect on so many, this community hub is going to be more important than ever.
