Bouygues UK’s Carmarthen Hwb meet the buyer event hailed a success as local businesses attend

CONSTRUCTION businesses from around South Wales attended Bouygues UK’s first ‘Meet the Buyer’ event to discuss the opportunity to work on at Carmarthen Hwb in St Catherine’s Walk, Carmarthen.

Local businesses attended the event, where they were able to find out more about the contract opportunities available as part of Bouygues UK’s commitment to provide significant employment, training and skills opportunities to local people and underrepresented groups.

Carmarthen Hwb, sited at the former Debenhams store in the town centre, is a collaborative project between Carmarthenshire County Council, Hywel Dda University Health Board and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD).

When completed, the Hwb will be a public space which will promote preventative health care and wellbeing. It will house council teams that can help residents with employment support and lifelong learning opportunities, a gym, and a leisure and exhibition space. The project has been funded by the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

Bouygues UK is committed to providing significant employment, training and skills opportunities to local people and underrepresented groups and has already held a successful meet the buyer event for its Pentre Awel project, in Llanelli. Care and protection of our planet is a priority for the contractor who has plans to decarbonise, reduce water and energy use, as well as decrease waste generated on site by 40% by 2030, and the team is keen to work with supply chain partners that share that same ethos.

Chris Carson, Bouygues UK’s Project Manager for Carmarthen Hwb, said: “It was great to chat to local suppliers in the hope of getting them involved in this state-of-the-art centre. This is an extensive refurbishment of the old department store and so we need a lot of local suppliers to work with us on this prestigious project.

“We discussed the scheme in general and what opportunities there could be for their business. The Hwb is going to be an integral building in the centre of town and will hopefully increase footfall to nearby shops and cafes too, so it is a great project to be part of.”

Bouygues UK, the preferred bidder for the project, is looking to engage with the local supply chain who specialise in:
