THE UNIVERSITY of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) Academy of Sport celebrated a year of outstanding sporting success at its 2024/25 Annual Awards Night, held at the Cothi Suite in the Halliwell Conference Centre on the Carmarthen campus. The event marked the University’s third season back in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) competitions and paid tribute to the remarkable achievements of student athletes, teams, and support staff who have made this a standout year for UWTSD sport.
The evening was a celebration of talent, dedication, and sporting spirit, bringing together students, coaches, and staff to reflect on a landmark year for the University’s sports programme.
Lee Tregoning, Head of UWTSD’s Academy of Sport, said: “Since the launch of the Academy of Sport at the beginning of the 2022/23 academic year, and through our close collaboration with the UWTSD Students’ Union, we’ve witnessed incredible growth.
“Now in our third season of BUCS competitions, it’s been inspiring to see students flourish across a range of events. Our third annual awards night was a fantastic occasion to come together, celebrate success, and mark another remarkable year.”
Award winners on the night included:

- Men’s Football – Player of the Year: Luke McDonald
- Iamge of Cassy receivng her award
- Women’s Netball – Player of the Year: Cassy Rumbelow

- Men’s Rugby – Player of the Year: Dafydd Jones
- Image of Jordan receiving his award
- Individual Sports – Sportsperson of the Year: Jordan Discombe

- Support Staff – Student of the Year: James Dillon



In addition to individual accolades, several UWTSD teams were honoured for outstanding performances:
- Men’s Football were crowned BUCS Western Conference Trophy Champions.
- Women’s Netball completed an unbeaten season to claim the BUCS Western Tier 6B League Title.
- Men’s Rugby achieved a historic undefeated season, securing both the BUCS Western Tier 4 League Title and the BUCS Western Conference Trophy.
