Cwmamman earn vital point at Dinas Powys

CWMAMMAN United travelled to Dinas Powys on the back of consecutive wins against top three opposition knowing that they needed something from a game against a fellow bottom six side.

With captain Ross Morgan unavailable, Cory Saunders returned and Ethan Taylor moved into midfield.

Cwm started in their usual positive style having the better of the early exchanges and it was a Cory Saunders free kick in the 6th minute that opened the scoring when Luke Birnage in the Powys goal couldn’t quite hold it and the linesman ruled it had crossed the line.

A Calem Rees shot then hit the bar for Cwm before Dinas Powys had a strong period of the game when Ryan Garland disposed a defender wide in the 30th minute and saw a perfect shot float over keeper Kai Rees into the far corner of the net.

Disaster then struck for Cwm when another dispossession saw the ball perfectly squared for the advancing Garland to stroke it home for his and Powys’ second goal.

The momentum had shifted and Cwm needed to work hard to get back in the game. Charlie Davies as usual was working hard winning good ball while Rhys Griffiths, Gwion Howell and Ryan Thomas were looking to exploit the Powys’ defensive weaknesses.

Kai Rees who’s handling was immaculate throughout was called upon to make an important save while Leon Croucher and Ronan Templeton were again having solid games at the centre of defence with Ethan Taylor and Saunders launching attacks wide.

Foe the Cwm attack of Kyle Ashford, Ryan Thomas and Calem Rees it was looking like it was not going to be their day especially when a Thomas shot went just wide of the post and Paul Lewis brought on more attackers in Scott Jewell, Keiran Richards and Lewis Taylor and it was Taylor in the 86th minute who was making his first appearance for the Senior Team who perfectly fired home to earn a well earned draw for Cwm.

A crucial point with most of their rivals failing to pick up points leaves Cwm in 11th place and Dinas Powys in 14th in the Ardal South West League.

Cwmamman do not have a game next Saturday due to opponents Baglan Dragons being involved in the FAW Trophy.
