Mark ‘Megafobia’ Lewis completes 5000th ride on Megafobia at Oakwood Theme Park

Mark Lewis, a dedicated rollercoaster enthusiast and member of The Rollercoaster Club of Great Britain, achieved a remarkable milestone by completing his 5000th ride on the iconic Megafobia rollercoaster at Oakwood Theme Park. This momentous occasion took place during The Rollercoaster Club of Great Britain weekend in Pembrokeshire.

Megafobia, known for its thrilling twists, turns, and exhilarating drops, has been a favourite among rollercoaster enthusiasts since its opening in 1996. Mark Lewis has an unwavering dedication to the ride and has been a regular visitor to Oakwood Theme Park for over two decades.

The Rollercoaster Club of Great Britain, an organisation dedicated to promoting and celebrating the love for rollercoasters, organises a special event at Oakwood Theme Park every year. This year members from all over the country gathered to witness Mark Lewis reach his 5000th ride milestone.

Mark Lewis expressed his excitement, saying, “This rollercoaster has always held a special place in my heart, and I am extremely grateful to Oakwood Theme Park for providing such an exhilarating experience. It was overwhelming for me to take my 5000th ride on the newly tracked Megafobia, with all my friends from the rollercoaster club of Great Britain and Oakwood Theme Park cheering me on. I am looking forward to reaching the next 5000 rides on this newly tracked coaster, which is my next milestone.

Mark continues; “I’ve been a member of the Rollercoaster Club of Great Britain (RCCGB) since 1994, and I’ve been riding Megafobia since the ride opened in April 1996. Since then, I have done three charity events with the longest one being riding Megafobia for 40 hours, over five days. Ever since my first ride, I have been counting my rides on this amazing wooden coaster. I am absolutely thrilled to have reached the incredible milestone of 5000 rides on Megafobia.”

Phil Verbinnen, Park Director at Oakwood Theme Park, congratulated Mark Lewis on his achievement, stating, “We are delighted to celebrate this momentous occasion with Mark. His dedication and passion for Megafobia are truly remarkable. We are proud to have provided him with countless thrilling experiences over the years, and we look forward to welcoming him back for many more rides in the future.”

Megafobia openec again earlier this year after a $2 million investment, replacing almost 40% of the track. It has seen the first drop made steeper, as well as new features including a double up and double down. Enthusiasts are claiming this is once again the UK’s best wooden rollercoaster and the ride of the season!
