Ammanford edge past Dock in Welsh Cup

Ammanford successfully negotiated their way through the first round of the Welsh Cup by beating visitors Pembroke Dock by 4 wickets at the Park on Sunday.

Pembroke Dock won the toss and elected to bat first. It looked to be a good decision as opener Jake Griffiths hit 67 out of the opening stand of 86.

When his fellow opener Rhys Daley was out for a more staid 27, wickets began to tumble more regularly, and the only other notable resistance came from a 32 run middle order partnership between Jake Davies (25) and Scott Griffiths (19).

Pembroke Dock closed their 40 over innings on 177 for 7. Skipper Alun Evans was chief wicket taker with 3 for 33.

Ammanford’s reply got off to a more than solid start with an opening stand of 82 between Rhodri-Huw Davies and Kurtis Marsh.

When Davies was bowled for 32, young keeper Gruffudd Owen (29) ably supported Marsh until the latter was out for a match winning 81 with the score on 126 for 1.

A further five wickets fell as Ammanford laboured their way to victory but Marsh’s innings had already decided the outcome.

The two Jakes, Griffiths and Davies, completed a good all-round performance for the visitors with a couple of wickets each, but couldn’t prevent Ammanford from easing home with 4 wickets and 4 overs to spare.
