London Marathon runners unite for friend with brain aneurysm

RUNNERS from Pembrokeshire help friend with brain aneurysm by raising funds for local Leonard Cheshire care home.

Two dedicated runners will take on the London Marathon to help their friend Yasmin and the Leonard Cheshire charity that supports her.

The runners, David Williams and Matthew Davies, were motivated to run for the charity after their friend Yasmin suffered a serious brain aneurysm whilst picking her children up from school. She is now living at Ty Cwm, a residential care and nursing home in Carmarthen by Leonard Cheshire.

David and Matthew are determined to make a difference to the lives of people living with brain injuries and disabilities. All funds raised will go directly to Ty Cwm, which supports up to 20 disabled adults including Yasmin.

Yasmin and family

Leonard Cheshire is a charity that supports disabled people to live, learn and work as independently as they choose. The charity runs a network of care homes, supported living services and employment programmes across the UK, providing vital support to those who need it most.

Matthew Davies, one of the runners, said: “If Leonard Cheshire didn’t have places like Ty Cwm it would have been a real struggle and stress to find a location suitable for Yasmin’s needs that also allows for her husband, children, family and friends to visit regularly. That’s why this is so important to us.”

Running partner David Williams, added: “We are both passionate about supporting charities and making a positive impact in our community and to the people around us. Running the London Marathon for Leonard Cheshire is a fantastic way for us to do just that. We hope that our efforts will inspire others to get involved and support this incredible cause.”

The London Marathon is one of the most prestigious marathons in the world, attracting thousands of runners from around the globe. David and Matthew will be among the many runners taking part in the event on Sunday, April 23, 2023.
