Swansea: Child dies in West Cross house fire

IN A INCIDENT that has left a community in shock, a child has lost their life in a house fire in West Cross, Swansea.

Authorities have confirmed the heartbreaking news, revealing that emergency services were called to the scene at Gonhill around 1.20 pm on Saturday, July 1.

The distressing incident unfolded within a single property, with three other individuals present at the time.

Sadly, each of them also faced the horrifying consequences of the fire. Among them were a child and a woman who suffered from smoke inhalation.

Additionally, a man is currently in a serious condition and is receiving treatment at Morriston Hospital.

The precise cause of the fire remains unknown, prompting a joint investigation by the police and the fire service. Both agencies are working diligently to shed light on the tragic events that unfolded on that fateful day.

Detective Inspector Carl Price, representing South Wales Police, expressed his condolences, saying, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the child who has tragically died at a house fire in West Cross, Swansea.”

He further elaborated on the condition of the survivors, stating, “Of the three others who were in the house at the time, one child and a woman suffered smoke inhalation, and one man is in a serious condition in Morriston Hospital.”

The detective inspector emphasised the importance of the ongoing investigation, ascertaining the precise circumstances surrounding the incident. He also extended gratitude to the members of the community who lent their assistance at the scene and to those who have come forward with information.
