TODAY, the city of Swansea gathers to bid a tearful farewell to the courageous young soul, Morgan Ridler. The three-year-old, whose incredible spirit touched the hearts of the nation, tragically lost his battle with a rare and complex form of cancer last month.
Morgan’s journey began in October 2021 when, at the tender age of just two, he was diagnosed with this devastating illness. Despite a brave fight and unyielding support from his parents, Natalie and Matthew, it became evident that his treatment was not yielding the desired results. The focus then shifted to palliative care, but Morgan’s fighting spirit remained unbroken.
He became the inspiration behind the Morgan’s Army Charitable Foundation, which stands with the powerful slogan, “No One Fights Alone.” The outpouring of support for this young warrior was overwhelming. Recently, even the renowned Red Arrows dedicated their heart-stopping stunt at the Swansea Air Show to honor the memory of the little boy who touched the lives of so many.
The Appreciation Service to celebrate Morgan’s life will be held at St Catherine’s Church in Gorseinon, Swansea, today, Friday, July 21. The procession will lead from Morgan’s home, where countless tributes have been paid to the courageous child.
Morgan’s family humbly requests that the community respects their wishes during this emotional time, asking that only close family and friends attend the church service. For those who wish to show their love and support, wearing yellow—the symbol of hope and joy—would be a fitting gesture.
However, it’s not just the church that will overflow with love; the Swansea.com stadium will also welcome all who wish to celebrate Morgan’s indomitable spirit. It will undoubtedly be a day filled with mixed emotions, but Morgan’s family and Morgan’s Army hope to cherish the joy he brought to their lives.
In the words of Morgan’s father, Matt, “Although Morgan’s life was short and very difficult for him, he embraced life and found happiness in the little things in life, and was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. In just under four years, Morgan created an army of people that made sure no one fights alone when it comes to childhood cancer.”
The Swansea Herald stands with the community in paying heartfelt respects to Morgan Ridler—a brave soul who has left an everlasting impact on our lives. As we come together to honour his memory, let us also remember the important lessons he taught us about bravery, love, and the power of togetherness. Rest in peace, dear Morgan. Your spirit lives on.
