Antonio Benito López and Emma Pallant-Browne claim victory at Ironman 70.3 

70.3 SWANSEA on Sunday, July 16, 2023. The day saw PRO triathletes Antonio Benito López (Spain) and Emma Pallant-Browne (Great Britain) claim victory with times 4:00:29 and 4:27:33 respectively.

The first IRONMAN race in Wales this season kicked off in Swansea with a 1.2-mile swim course which took athletes round the Prince of Wales dock with the morning water temperature reading 18.1 degrees Celsius in blustery and wet conditions. The one-loop 56-mile bike course went through Mumbles along roads that hug the Gower’s coastal cliff tops before cycling out through Rural Swansea and heading back along Swansea Bay into the city. The 13.1-mile run rounded off the incredible rac with two-loops from the city centre, out past the new eye-catching gold-coloured Swansea Arena, towards Mumbles before heading back towards the fan-filled finish line at the Marina.

Finishing just behind Benito López was Dieter Comhair (Belgium), who finished 02:43 behind. The

Third and last podium spot went to Jack Moody (New Zealand).

“Today was really hard, but I’m super happy with the public turnout”, said Benito López.

He continued, “The biking was hard, but I enjoyed the run. I like Swansea and the public here today

were great!”

Finishing just behind Pallant-Browne on the women’s podium was Nikki Bartlett (Great Britain), who

finished 07:04 behind. The final podium spot went to Sif Bendix Madsen (Denmark).

“Despite the weather everyone was out cheering for you. It was a great day with a great course and

a great challenge!” said Pallant-Browne.

She continued, “It was pouring with rain but people were still out of their houses screaming and

shouting, so it was really good. Whenever I can race in the UK it’s very special, and to have my family

here also”.
