A FIRE broke out in Swansea on Monday (Nov 18) in the kitchen of a student flat prompting a huge response from emergency services. The blaze took hold at about 4 pm in a high-rise building on New Cut Road.
Crews from Morriston, Swansea Central, Swansea West, Gorseinon, Port Talbot, Neath, Pontardawe, Llanelli, and Carmarthen fire stations arrived swiftly to tackle the fire.
Thanks to their prompt action, the fire was successfully confined to the kitchen of one flat, preventing further damage to the building. All residents were safely evacuated, with no reported injuries or casualties. Firefighters remained on-site to conduct thorough post-incident checks.
The coordinated efforts of the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, Welsh Ambulance Service Trust (WAST), and South Wales Police ensured the safety of residents and those in the surrounding area. The multi-agency response was key to bringing the fire under control quickly.
In light of the incident, the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service urged residents to take precautions to prevent kitchen fires. They advised never leaving cooking unattended, ensuring fire doors remain closed, regularly testing smoke alarms, and keeping communal areas free from obstructions. These measures can significantly reduce the risk of fire and its potential spread.
