Lauren Price aims for titles and return to Wales

Lauren Price, 28-year-old Olympic Champion, seeks to capitalise on her groundbreaking first year in full-time professional boxing and has set her sights on becoming a headliner and making a return to her roots.

Having left the amateur ranks in June of last year, Price secured a debut victory, and later emerged victorious on a momentous all-female card in October, alongside boxing stalwarts Claressa Shields and Savannah Marshall, underscoring the immense talent of women in the sport.

Price is currently preparing for her third pro fight taking place in Paris on Saturday, March 11th, where she faces Germany’s Naomi Mannes.

When talking about headlining and returning to her home land, Price said: “That’s the dream, that’s the goal.

“It would be amazing to do that back in Wales.

“That’s the main goal for me, to box in Wales and have my homecoming with fans behind me would be a dream come true.”

Following a sell-out event at London’s O2 Arena in October, Olympic champion Lauren Price has revealed that the experience was “unreal” both before and after the momentous occasion.

The former Wales international footballer admitted to being filled with fantasies of replicating a similar event in the future.

Despite acknowledging that such an undertaking may be short while away, Price remains determined to stay grounded, a trait that contributed to her winning a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in August 2021.

The Olympic champion has also maintained her commitment to her training regimen, still a part of the GB camp in Sheffield, under the tutelage of her coach, Rob McCracken. Price continues to share her dreams with partner and fellow Olympic medalist, Kariss Artingstall, and makes a weekly visit to her hometown of Ystrad Mynach.

“Nothing’s really changed for me,” Price told BBC Sport Wales.

“I spent so many years here (in Sheffield) as an amateur.

“I’m in camp, focused, putting the graft in but I’m on that motorway on a Friday afternoon because I still make sure I go home to see my Nan.

“I do have to tell my Nan sometimes when I go home because she’s a bit of a feeder and I have to ask her to stick to my diet,” she laughed.

“But after I have boxed, I do look forward to going home and having a nice dinner. I do like a good Sunday roast and she makes these banging pigs in blankets; I know that’s supposed to be for Christmas, but if I have a good win they’re on the cards.”
