A SWANSEA prisoner who attacked a cell-mate with a tin of beans in a sock has had his prison term extended.
Ezra Greig, of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, appeared before Swansea Crown Court on Wednesday, March 8, for sentencing after pleading guilty to the matter on February 22, 2023.
Greig had been sentenced to prison for possession of class A drugs with intent to supply in 2020 for a total of 6 years.
On the day of the attack in October 2020, the complainant said ‘alright’ to Greig on seeing him but he was then hit with a sock which had the tin of beans inside.
He was hit three times to the face above the right eye and the attack caused him to fall to the bottom of the staircase where he laid unconscious.
Greig then said: “I told you I would get you, that’s for making a mug of me in the yard.”
The complainant was taken to Morriston Hospital where he was treated for a laceration of the head and two separate fractures to his eye socket.
He did not require surgery.
The court heard how Greig had been diagnosed with an antisocial personality disorder which made it difficult for him to control his anger.
Just a month prior to this attack, Greig had also assaulted another inmate, attacking him with a kettle and punching him to the head.
The Judge described the tin of beans in a sock as ‘an ugly weapon’ and ‘highly dangerous’.
The court heard that there had been a delay in bringing the case to the court due to a lack of police resources and the covid-19 pandemic.
They were also told how there had not been any further offences since the one in October 2020.
Greig, who was due to be released in December this year, was sentenced to four months in prison, setting his release date back by two months.
