A NEW team dedicated to supporting families has been launched in Pembrokeshire.
Based at the Flying Start Centre in Pennar, the Team Around the Families (TAF) offers help to families who need support in making changes to their lives.
The team is run by Pembrokeshire County Council and funded by the Welsh Government’s anti-poverty programme, Families First.
The service was officially launched at the Flying Start Centre last Thursday (September 12).
“The team aims to help families, who want to make positive changes to their lives but require support to make them,” said Councillor Ken Rowlands, Cabinet Member for Education.
“It has been shown that it is best when families identify themselves the positive changes they wish to make as this leads to more positive futures for their children,” he said.
The TAF team is made up of a manager, eight TAF workers, a Business Support Officer, three Primary School Youth Workers, a Disability Inclusion Worker and three Community Nursery Nurses.
It is estimated that at any one time there will be about 350 families open to the service.
During the recent summer holidays, the team provided a range of activities every day targeted at different age groups or needs, and in total 280 families took part.
The Welsh Government’s Deputy Minister for Tackling Poverty, Vaughn Gething, who attended one of the TAF family days, said it has been a pleasure to meet such a highly motivated and dedicated team.
“It was especially helpful to hear directly from parents about the difference the TAF team is making to them and their children,” he said.
