BBC Studios Drama Productions, the UK’s biggest drama production hub outside of London, today announced two new TalentWorks initiatives, offering training and development opportunities for writers and directors on the BAFTA-winning BBC medical drama Casualty.
The Casualty Directors’ Scheme is designed to give eight established directors the opportunity to learn how to bring the most exciting episodes of Casualty to life across two bootcamp weekends at the show’s home in Roath Lock, Cardiff. Up to four successful candidates will then be chosen to direct an episode, with the support of an established mentor director.
Meanwhile, The Writers’ Studio: Casualty is an open script call for screenwriting talent who are looking to take the next step in their writing career and join the ranks of the Casualty writing team. Ten writers will have the opportunity to write shadow scripts and up to four will be commissioned to write an episode.
BBC Studios Drama Productions is committed to finding and developing the best on and off-screen talent as part of its industry leading training portfolio, which will bring together, nurture and champion the next generation of British storytellers. These two new opportunities add to a wide-reaching range of recently announced BBC Studios TalentWorks training and development opportunities that cater to emerging and established talent. These initiatives will enable BBC Studios to continue to produce award-winning dramas and comedies for UK and international audiences, as well as supporting the growth and success of the wider UK drama industry.
Kris Green, Training Executive for BBC Studios Drama Productions will oversee both schemes which are being brought to life in partnership with BBC Public Service.

The multi-award-winning medical drama Casualty is one of the UK’s longest running TV shows and is broadcast on primetime BBC One and BBC iPlayer. It is filmed at BBC Roath Lock Studios in Cardiff.
