Louis Theroux shares health update amid alopecia battle

DOCUMENTARY filmmaker Louis Theroux has taken to social media to provide an update on his health journey, reassuring his followers to stay calm amid recent developments. Earlier this year, the 53-year-old revealed his diagnosis of alopecia, a condition resulting in hair loss.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, August 22, Louis shared a selfie along with a caption that read, “Alopecia update (try to remain calm!): new bald patches are appearing in my ‘top hair’ (the hair on top of my head) BUT I can now grow a weird straggly and rather sparse white beard. So that’s something. And there are some tiny patches of regrowth on my eyebrow. ‘FWIW I’ve been taking vitamin D, iron, and something called biotin. Is it helping? Who knows?'” This update sparked a flood of responses from his concerned followers.

Among the comments, unexpected support came from American stunt performer Johnny Knoxville, who shared his own experience: “I’ve had that before. My barber found a bald spot in the back of my head about the size of a half dollar coin. It was as smooth as glass. My dermatologist injected a corticosteroid into my scalp and it slowly grew back. Good luck.”

Amid the comments, words of encouragement poured in. One individual wrote, “You look great, Louis,” while another shared, “Louis! please remember that hair is both silly and temporary, and that we love YOU for your beautiful and inquisitive mind and uniquely refreshing personality.”

This isn’t the first time Louis has addressed his alopecia. In a previous post, he humorously remarked, “Nature has played a cruel trick on me. Thanks to my alopecia barbae (‘of the beard’), I can now only grow a weird little Hitler mustache.” Alongside a selfie, he added, “This is what I look like after three days of not shaving. I have given up on my beard ever growing back to its luxuriant former glory, but is it too much to ask for it to ALL fall out instead of having a tiny remnant in a potentially offensive configuration?”

Louis candidly shared his concern about hair loss progressing further, mentioning, “Making me wonder if my proper hair-hair might be next to go. In two years or less, I may be bald!”

Louis Theroux’s openness about his alopecia journey has garnered support and encouragement from his followers and unexpected quarters alike. As he navigates this new chapter, his distinctive personality and spirit remain at the forefront.
