Council agrees terms for Council Tax Reduction Scheme

RESIDENTS in Carmarthenshire are being reminded that they could be eligible for a reduction in their Council Tax, depending on their circumstances.

Carmarthenshire County Council has agreed terms for its Council Tax Reduction Scheme for the coming year.

People may be eligible for reduced bills if they are on a low income, claim benefits or Universal Credit.

Bills can be reduced by up to 100 per cent, no matter whether people own their home or rent, whether they are unemployed or working.

Applicants must provide proof of income through employment, benefits, allowances or pensions, and details of savings and investments.

Councillors agreed at a meeting of Full Council on January 8, 2020, to fully disregard war disablement pensions and war widows pensions when assessing entitlement to a reduction.

Cllr David Jenkins, Executive Board Member for Resources, said: “We encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible for a reduction in Council Tax to find out more or make an application so that the necessary support can be put in place.”

Further information and advice can be found on the council’s website, www.carmarthenshire.gov.wales or in person at a customer service Hwb in Llanelli, Carmarthen or Ammanford town centre.
