A MALE voice choir whose fundraising activities included a sponsored zip wire slide presented a cheque to their charity of the year this week.

Representatives of Bancyfelinbased Côr Bois Y Felin presented a cheque for £2,300 to Bethan Palfrey, the Parkinson’s UK Fund Raising Organiser for Wales.

The presentation took place at the Cottage Inn, Llandeilo where vice Chair Clive Bott, and Gordon Griffiths, President of Carmarthenshire Parkinson’s Society, along with other members of the Society from around Carmarthenshire, had met for a lunch.

Each year, the choir chooses a charity to support, then raises funds by sponsorship and by singing at various local events. This year, the majority of the money was collected by six members of the choir who had travelled to North Wales for a sponsored trip down the Velocity Zip wire in Bethesda.

The cheque was presented by Choir members Roderick Hancock, Emyr Vaughan, Clive Edwards and Bruce Wallace.

Ms Palfrey said that the donation was very welcome, because the Society survives totally on charitable donations. She confirmed that the funds would be used to help people locally with Parkinson’s disease.

The Côr also raised £765 by carol singing both in Bancyfelin and in the Carmarthen Branch of Tesco just before Christmas. This will be donated to NHS Glangwili, where it will also be used to help local people who suffer with Parkinson’s.

Côr Bois Y Felin has been going for about 8 years and performs at concerts, weddings and other social events. The choir sing in Welsh and English, and include modern songs and songs from musicals, as well as those from the traditional Welsh repertoire. The choir has sung with Katherine Jenkins in Cardiff and last year went on a short tour in Ireland. They have also produced a CD of their most popular songs.

The 25-plus members rehearse at Bancyfelin Village Hall on Monday evenings at 8.00pm. New members are always welcome.
