Enterprise Rent-A-Car has joined forces with Big Bocs Bwyd to help address food insecurity in Wales, with a donation of £10,000 to support the charity’s efforts in improving food access and promoting food literacy. This contribution will help to support the running of their operations for approximately eight months.
Big Bocs Bwyd was established in 2019 by Janet Hayward and Hannah Cogbill, teachers at Cadoxton Primary School, after noticing families struggling to afford food. The charity converted a shipping container into a food bank and learning hub for affordable, nutritious cooking at Cadoxton Primary. Since then, it has expanded its reach to around 70 schools across Wales.
As one of the three finalists for the T4 Education World’s Best School award for overcoming adversity, Big Bocs Bwyd is dedicated to addressing the rising cost of living, reducing food waste, alleviating food poverty, and enhancing the nutritional wellbeing of families throughout Wales.
Their innovative ‘pay as you feel’ shop and educational programmes empower children and families with the knowledge to make informed food choices.
Enterprise’s commitment to this cause extends beyond financial support, with eighteen employees volunteering with the charity. This includes their involvement in running a stand at the Royal Welsh Show, with more opportunities on the horizon to aid food distribution in the community.
In 2016, Enterprise’s parent company, Enterprise Mobility, launched its global “Fill Your Tank” programme to celebrate the company’s 60th anniversary by providing $115 million (£94.7 million) over ten years to help address food insecurity worldwide.
With a presence spanning 17 car rental locations across Wales and more than 25 years of service in the country, Enterprise is committed to fostering long-term growth and prosperity in the communities where it operates.
