THE CLUB welcomed Lion Ben Pula Manluctao to the monthly meeting. Lion Ben, a member of Aberystwyth Lions Club, gave a talk on the work of the Laouc United Lions Club in the Philippines. What started out as a Reading in Schools Project in a village in Northern Philippines was extended to 22 villages, and discovering that many of the children had serious eye infections they began a Lions Eye Health Programme.

The infections caused by dirty drinking water led the Lions Club to fund the installation of Bore Wells, and these projects and many others are ongoing. Lion President Rhian presented Lion Ben with a cheque from the members towards the projects. Some of the money was raised from selling paperbacks at various events, and the Club had also been busy collecting children’s reading books for Lion Ben to ship out to the Philippines.
