Girl discovers dinosaur footprints during beach walk

During a summer holiday beach walk with her mother, 10-year-old Tegan made an extraordinary discovery—dinosaur footprints, believed to be over 200 million years old.

While strolling along the South Wales coast near Penarth, Tegan spotted five large footprints that experts suggest were left by a dinosaur known as Camelotia, a giant herbivore from the Late Triassic period. The footprints, measuring up to 75cm (30 inches) apart, are now under investigation for verification.

Palaeontologists from the National Museum Wales have shown keen interest in Tegan’s find. The museum’s palaeontology curator, Cindy Howells, expressed her confidence in the authenticity of the discovery, stating, “We’re fairly certain they are genuine dinosaur prints.”

Speaking to the BBC’s The Dinohunters programme, Howells further explained, “We’ve got five footprints, each spaced about half to three-quarters of a metre apart. Given their size, they most likely belong to a dinosaur type known as Sauropodomorpha.”

The remarkable find was made near the area where Tegan’s mother, Claire, once lived, adding a personal touch to this prehistoric discovery.
