A FIRE broke out at Mumbles Pier in Swansea Bay during the early hours of Saturday morning. Six fire engines from the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident at approximately 03:52am.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke coming from the amusement arcades and described a strong burning smell in the area. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.
As a result of the fire, the pier announced that its amusements, cafe, Big Wheel, and the Copperfish restaurant would remain closed until further notice. However, “On the Rocks” remains open. This incident is particularly disheartening for regular visitors, including families planning to visit the pier during the holiday season.
In a Facebook post, Mumbles Pier asked for patience from the public as they assess the situation and promised to release more information soon. This fire follows a previous incident in 2022 when a nightclub at the base of the pier was severely damaged by fire, although the pier itself was not affected at that time.
Local resident Chris Faulder, who was out fishing at the time, described seeing the fire engines approach and noticing smoke and a burning smell before spotting a small flae on one side of the building. Despite the disruption, he expressed relief that no one was hurt.
