Goods Shed Roadshow gathers ideas

Screen Shot 2016-05-05 at 11.45.15THE LLANELLI Goods Shed Roadshow was at the St Elli Shopping Centre on Friday (Apr 15) asking for people’s views on what they would like to see at the new venue.

Robert Lloyd was on hand to take people’s ideas and chat about the progress of the project to date.

The plans are to turn an abandoned railway building into a suite of offices, events area and a cafe.

The goods shed has a long industrial heritage and was in use up until 1986. It is hoped that the new life breathed into the building will go a long way to regenerate the Station area of Llanelli.

Former guard and railway worker Paul Lewis told The Herald that there used to be around 70 people working at the goods shed 24 hours-a-day seven days-a-week. He remarked it would be strange walking into the building in a suit rather than his uniform when he goes to watch a concert.

Robert Lloyd said: “Most people are coming to look at the plans for the site. People have been impressed with the artist’s impression. We have included a lot of the history of the railway in the plans.

“There isn’t a lot in town that explains about the railway and the industrial past.

“We need to find creative ways to encourage people into the building. It will be sustained by incomes from offices, a cafe and events. We have had consultations on a regular basis to make sure we are doing what the public would like us to do.”
