Award Winners: College Sir Gar’s library team

COLEG SIR GAR’s library services team has been presented with an award at the Marketing Excellence Awards, which recognises the work carried out by museums, archives and libraries across Wales. From over 40 entries, Coleg Sir Gâr won a highly commended award for demonstrating marketing excellence in a further education.
The college website states that they won the award for both the college’s innovative use of technology and its pro-active promotion of its new service to library users.
Jan Morgan, library services manager at Coleg Sir Gâr said: “Higher education learners have reading lists for every module they study; searching the library catalogue for the individual items on these lists can be time consuming, tedious and open to error. Instead of searching for 20 books separately, students can now zap the QR code or type a module code into the library catalogue and their complete reading lists appears, enabling them to download e-books, check library stock or reserve books in an instant. We are continually striving to increase awareness and accessibility of our resources and improve our services and this initiative does just that.”
Dr Jonathan Deacon reader in entrepreneurship and marketing at the University of South Wales and trustee of the Chartered Institute of Marketing judged the entries. This year’s success follows on from last year, whereby the library team won two awards, including highly commended for their ‘Zap our App’ campaign and library services manager Jan Morgan won Library Marketer of the Year.
The Zap our App initiative has also been recognised in a book entitled Ebooks in Education Realising the Vision, which dedicates a whole chapter to the development of the app and how it has impacted on college learners.
