Preparations begin for Festival of Senses

screen-shot-2016-10-18-at-10-30-52WITH Mince Pies and Christmas puddings already appearing in the shops, preparations are well underway for this year’s Llandeilo Festival of Senses – the most important event in the town’s retail calendar.

This year, the festival will take place from November 18-20.

Established over a decade ago by a group of local business people, the festival was created as a way to promote and showcase Llandeilo as an attractive and desirable retail destination. Since then, year-on-year, the festival has grown into a three day shopping extravaganza.

During these three days, thousands of visitors and locals flock to Llandeilo to enjoy the local food, craft and fashion, to dance to the music performed on the stage, to view the colourful firework display and, of course, to meet Santa and be enticed by the full Christmas shopping experience.

With shopping experiences located all across the town, there is plenty for you to choose from, including craft stalls in the Llandeilo Civic Hall, a fashion area in Horeb Chapel, the main stage and food stalls on King Street and a food tent in the main town car park.

Every year, one of the main attractions is the late night shopping on the Friday night, when all the shops and stalls remain open until late with special offers for their customers. Friday is also the night when Santa visits the town and meets children in King Street, where live entertainment takes place on the outdoor stage. The day also includes switching on the Christmas lights and a fireworks display from Penlan Park.

The entertainment continues on Saturday and Sunday, with acts including local choirs and children’s entertainers, street food, and of course plenty of shopping opportunities.

Each year, the festival committee raise valuable funds to allow the festival to take place, as well as collecting sponsorship from local businesses.

Tracey Kindred, Festival Committee Chair, said: “The Llandeilo Community and committee are proud that the Festival of Senses is now one of the biggest and all inclusive events of its kind.

“We aim to offer something for everyone, and all at no charge for the visitor. This year’s event hosts more entertainment, shopping events and a host of amazing food and drink.

“The town is geared up and looking forward to welcoming record numbers of visitors this year.”
