THIS SPRING, a unique opportunity has arisen to ‘Walk with a Warden’ at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre and discover a host of wonderful wetland wildlife.
The second in the series of special ‘Walk with a Warden’ events is set to take place this Saturday (May 14) at 10.30am, where atte ndees can explore the Millennium Wetlands. The cost of this event will be included in the admission price.
Visitors to the centre will be encouraged to utilise all their senses to explore the different species of wildlife on the 80 hectare reserve, while gaining a unique perspective on how wardens manage the diverse habitats for nature.
Brian Briggs, Senior Reserve Warden, said: “During our last ‘Walk with a Warden’, we were able to point out numerous bird songs and calls, which visitors were able to tune into with the help of a parabolic reflector.
“We helped the group to identify hidden wildlife from their tracks, teaching visitors to recognise the prints in the mud made by otters, mink, grey squirrel, rabbit and fox.
“This time we hope to spot some early dragonflies and damselflies, spring flowers and butterflies.
“We also hope to point out to visitors some fantastic recent bird sightings including Grasshopper Warbler, Mediterranean Gulls, breeding Lapwing and hundreds of Black-tailed Godwits, which have moved into the Millennium Wetlands following all our tree clearance work last winter.”
If you miss this “Walk with a Warden” session, there are more walks planned for Thursday June 9 and Saturday July 9.
