A MAN who stabbed his wife in the back with a kitchen knife has been jailed, following an investigation by South Wales Police
Earlier this month Shashi Annadi, 28, was acquitted of attempted murder but found guilty of wounding with intent to cause GBH at their Cardiff home.
Police were called to the couple’s flat in Richmond Road during the early hours of January 20, 2021.
Annadi had stabbed his wife in her back causing the blade to become embedded in her body.
At first she claimed she had fallen onto the knife and Annadi maintained this false version of events throughout.
DI Grant Wilson, from South Wales Police, was the Senior Investigating Officer.
“From the outset we believed that the injury was deliberate and has been caused by the suspect Shashi Annadi,” he said.
“Officers worked tirelessly over the initial 48 hours to secure vital evidence and crucially provide support and reassurance to the victim of this most serious domestic abuse.
“Thankfully these efforts resulted in us gaining her trust and a true account was provided.
“In the weeks after the after this assault, his wife returned to India and despite this distance, officers maintained that trust and confidence, that enabled her to provide evidence to the trial via video link from India.
“She was extremely brave and we sincerely hope that the outcome at court allows her to move on from this most traumatic ordeal and we wish her a full recovery from her injuries.”
Annadi was sentenced yesterday (Monday, September 27) at Newport Crown Court, to a 16-year extended sentence comprising of 13 years in custody and an extended three-year licence period.
