Police provide update on Carmarthenshire school stabbing incident

POLICE have provided an update on the condition of three individuals wounded in a stabbing incident at a school in Carmarthenshire. Emergency services responded to the scene after a student and two teachers sustained injuries on Wednesday.

The authorities have confirmed that their conditions are not life-threatening. Superintendent Ross Evans, addressing reporters outside the school gates on the evening of Wednesday, April 24, also announced the recovery of a knife as evidence.

In his statement, Superintendent Evans reiterated previously confirmed details. Darren Price, the leader of Carmarthenshire council, announced the closure of the school for both staff and students on Thursday, April 25, with lessons transitioning to online platforms.

Superintendent Evans provided a comprehensive statement, stating, “Dyfed-Powys Police are continuing their investigation into the serious incident at Amman Valley School in Carmarthenshire this morning. We received a report just after 11.20 am regarding injuries sustained in an incident at the school.

“Emergency services promptly responded, and the school was placed on lockdown for the safety of all present. Two teachers and a teenage pupil were hospitalised with stab wounds, none of which are life-threatening.

“A teenage girl has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody. A knife has been recovered as evidence.

“I am aware that footage of the incident is circulating on social media and urge its removal to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation and to prevent further distress to those involved. Furthermore, I urge the public to refrain from speculation while the police investigation is underway and to seek factual updates from official channels.

“The local community will observe increased police presence in the area as the investigation progresses. I wish to reassure parents and the public that the incident has concluded, and all pupils have left the school premises.

“We are collaborating with the school and other agencies to ensure appropriate support is provided to all affected parties. This was a deeply distressing incident, and our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted.

“We have established a dedicated portal, and individuals with information pertinent to our investigation are encouraged to report it through this link to assist in managing the influx of information.
