CURRENT and former students were invited to Pembrokeshire College for the College’s annual awards ceremony where their outstanding academic achievements were recognised. The annual event is now an important date in the College calendar and over 60 students were joined by guests, lecturers and representatives from local businesses, to celebrate the outstanding achievements of students during academic year 2014/15.

The awards ceremony was opened with a spectacular laser light and saxophone show by Switch Entertainment followed by a brief welcome from College Principal, Sharron Lusher, which saw her highlight some of the outstanding achievements of the College’s former students during 2014/15. As well as recognising the academic success of those students attending the ceremony, students also had the opportunity to vote for members of academic staff who had helped and inspired them throughout the year.

The awards for outstanding lecturer of the year went to:

• Dr. Helen Coomer – Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Science and Skills

• Antony Davies – Faculty of Engineering and Construction

• Kevin Hopkins – Faculty of Health, Care, Services and Independent Living Skills

• The award for outstanding Personal Tutor of the year went to Julia Miles while the award for Support Staff of the year went to Rhiannon Caffery. This year, the ceremony also celebrated three exceptional former members of staff who dedicated their careers to teaching. Such has been their commitment to their students and their profession that they deserved an award for outstanding contribution to education.

Congratulations to:

• Former Head of Faculty of Engineering and Construction, Hugh Roch

• Former Senior Lecturer in Health and Care, Dr Elizabeth Mozdiak • Former Senior Lecturer in Engineering, Michael Headlam College Principal, Sharron Lusher, commented: “It is always a real thrill for us to see both current and former students returning to the college, either from employment or from university, because we love hearing about your successes and your experiences”. She went on to note some of the highlights from 2014/15 such as a 99.2 percent A-level pass rate and 41 percent of diploma students being awarded Distinction/Distinction* allowing students to progress to top universities across the UK. She also highlighted the College’s success in WorldSkills competitions with students making it through to the WorldSkills UK final. A lively performance from popular Music Technology band, Baked Goods added to the excitement of the event.
