FORGET Stilton and Camembert this Christmas – the owner of the newly launched Welsh Cheese Company is encouraging people in Wales to create a cheeseboard that really shows off the best cheeses that Wales has to offer
“We have so many excellent, artisan producers in Wales, you can easily stock an entire cheeseboard with Welsh cheeses,” says Tom Pinder, who founded The Welsh Cheese Company in October as a one-stop online shop for Welsh cheeses. “Mon Las, an intensely rich and creamy Blue cheese made by Caws Rhyd y Delyn on Anglesey, is a Welsh take on Gorgonzola, and it’s ideal as the blue cheese option on your board.
“Then you could add a Welsh Cheddar such as Hafod or Black Bomber, both of which are wonderfully mature and intense, and a soft cheese such as Angiddy – a beautiful, Brie-style cheese made in Monmouthshire.
“Wales also produces some excellent flavoured cheeses, such as Tintern from Abergavenny Fine Foods, which contains chives and shallots. We also stock excellent Welsh biscuits and chutneys to go with the cheeses, so you really can make every aspect of your cheese course a celebration of all things Welsh this Christmas.”
