Union seeks Next Generation members

NFU CYMRU is asking for applicants for a new intake of proactive, enthusiastic young farmers to be part of its Next Generation Policy Group.

Farmers, aged 40 and under, from all sectors, from all counties of Wales are invited to apply to join the group and to represent the future of the industry. In addition to working with NFU Cymru Policy Advisers and officeholders, on key policy issues such as Brexit and Rural Development, members of the group will also get the opportunity to travel to Cardiff Bay and London to meet with government at all levels.

This will be the second intake for the group, which has a two-year term, and provides an opportunity for young farmers to engage with top decision makers, as well as the opportunity to meet similar groups in Ireland and England.

Member of the current group, Annie James, said: “I wanted to get involved with the NFU Cymru Next Generation Policy Group as I felt that the younger generation need to be part of the conversation at all levels of the industry, and therefore the Union. This group not only enables this, but can lead to integration into other policy groups and boards and will help develop and filter informed younger generation farmers into the Union’s wider work and wider industry posts. I think this is particularly important in the light of Brexit but also to help keep the work that NFU Cymru does relevant for the future generations of farmers.”

NFU Cymru President John Davies said: “NFU Cymru is committed to working with the younger members of the industry. The Next Generation Policy Group has been a great working group for ideas on the future of the industry. Brexit is a key issue at the moment, and will significantly impact the next generation within the industry. Being part of NFU Cymru’s Next Generation Policy Group is a great opportunity to get your voice heard. We at NFU Cymru are keen to get younger members involved in the Union, and if you are interested please complete an application.”

The deadline for applications closes on February 28.

NFU Cymru invites applications from people who are involved in agriculture aged 40 years and under.

Applications can be submitted in either Welsh or English and further details are available from NFU Cymru’s website.
