Climate protests held in cities all over the UK midway through COP26 Summit

Protesters outside the Senedd

THOUSANDS of protesters took to the streets of Cardiff, Swansea, and many other cities in the UK on Saturday (Nov 6).

The protesters demanded action on climate change, midway through the COP26 summit which is currently taking place in Glasgow.

The COP26 summit has seen roughly 120 world leaders gather in Glasgow to discuss and set out action to curb deforestation, phase out coal, end funding for fossil fuels and cut methane emissions.

Cardiff was expecting Cardiff to host many visitors, as rugby fans also descended on the city. There were an estimated 100,000 people in attendance in Cardiff on Saturday.

Over 1,000 protesters also set off from Cardiff’s City Hall and marched to the Senedd, as well as many campaigners, who protested in Swansea’s Castle Square.

The protests come shortly after many youth activists, including Greta Thunberg, and Vanessa Nakate, marched through Glasgow on Friday, protesting against investment in fossil fuels, and failure to tackle the climate crisis.

In Glasgow, an estimated 50,000 people are expected to march through the city centre as part of the COP26 Coalition’s global day of action for climate justice.

Campaigners will also be on the streets of Central London, as well as for 200 events across the UK and around the world, organisers have said.
