Polls predict that well-known Welsh Conservatives are likely to lose seats in upcoming general election

A recent poll indicates that David TC Davies, the current Secretary of State for Wales, and Simon Hart, the former holder of the office, are both expected to lose their seats in the upcoming general election.

The survey, conducted for The Times and Times Radio, reveals that six UK cabinet ministers, including the two Welsh politicians, are projected to face defeat. Mr. Hart currently serves as the Chief Whip.

In a seat-by-seat analysis of voting intentions conducted by the Stonehaven research and strategy consultancy, it is suggested that Labour could secure a majority of 90 seats. This aligns with previous polls that indicate a potential near-total Conservative wipeout in Wales.

Recent polling data suggests that the party might only retain the Montgomeryshire seat if an election were to be held at this time.

As reported by The Times, should Rishi Sunak secure only the predicted 196 seats, it would mark the Conservative Party’s worst electoral outcome for a leader since William Hague’s 166 seats in 2001. Among other cabinet ministers forecasted to lose their seats are Chancellor Jeremy Hunt, Justice Secretary Alex Chalk, Tory Chairman Greg Hands, and Jacob Rees-Mogg.

In Wales, the Conservative Party has placed considerable electoral emphasis on opposition to the 20mph speed limit. Both Mr. Davies and Welsh Tory leader Andrew RT Davies have been vocal in their criticism of this policy.

However, it’s worth noting that footage recently surfaced of a former senior Welsh Tory passionately advocating for the new speed limit back in 2018.

Furthermore, only one Tory Member of the Senedd (Welsh Parliament) voted against its introduction in a 2020 debate.
