screen-shot-2016-11-11-at-09-14-18BORTH UNITED and Abermule played out a classic encounter at Uppingham Fields on Saturday afternoon (Oct 15).

Little did the crowd know that after a rather scrappy start, that the two teams would give the spectators their money’s worth with exciting end-to-end play.

Borth took an early lead with some fine run up play, resulting in Ben Jones sweeping the ball over the Abermule keeper.

Almost immediately, the ever-dangerous Dave Anthony scored with a cool finish past Sean Gates to keep the pressure on.

Anthony then scored again to put Abermule ahead 1-2, a lead they held up to the half time whistle.

As the second half got underway, Abermule extended their lead, with Tommy Jones scoring with a header into the top corner after Dave Anthony’s shot hit the bar.

However, some astute substitutions by Borth manager Ian Lewis seemed to galvanise his team with immediate effect.

Ryan Davies’ cross was pounced on by Liam Lewis to slide the ball past the keeper.

With the visitors reeling, Ryan Davies again created an opening and Ben Jones squeezed the ball between the keeper and the post for the equalizer.

Borth weren’t finished as Ryan Davies outsmarted the Abermule defence and placed the ball past the keeper for the winning goal.

To their credit, Abermule can be thanked for their contribution for their part in a highly entertaining match.

With Borth unbeaten and joint top of the League, the supporters can look forward to hopefully another action packed match against Builth Wells at Uppingham Fields on Saturday (Oct 22), kicking off at 2.30pm.
