Carmarthen secure promotion

CARMARTHEN travelled away for their last game of the season on Saturday (Apr 6) and with a potential promotion on the line they had a lot to play for.

Carmarthen flew out the blocks and quickly created many scoring opportunities. Forwards Ffion Wyn Jones, Beck Cartland, Megan Davies and Maya Davies were effective in their attack which resulted in 2 goals in quick succession. The first goal came from a ball being driven down the back line by Anna Knuckles. She passed the ball back to the P spot where Megan Davies was eagerly waiting and slotted the ball in the bottom left hand corner.

The second goal was scored from a ball being taken from a free hit. Sophie Palmer hit the ball in which found Maya Davies on the post. She then tapped the ball into the goal to give Carmarthen the 2-0 lead.

Rhondda soon woke up and started using their strengths against our team. The defence of Keira Griffiths, Kate Williams, and Ffion Dart held strong and ensured that keeper Jackie Marshall wouldn’t be called into action.

Marshall did make some amazing saves however keeping Carmarthen’s lead. Half time came with a well needed rest for Carmarthen and received their final team talk from Keira Griffiths.

A well-deserved rest saw Carmarthen start to create attacking play again. Midfielders Megan Henry, Anna Knuckles, Sophie Palmer and Anna Heath worked tirelessly up and down the pitch with the play.

Carmarthen were unlucky not to score more goals however Rhondda held their defence tight and didn’t let any play through.

Carmarthen were able to celebrate the win with champagne as it confirmed their promotion into Division 1.

Player of the match from Carmarthen went to Kate Williams for her outstanding tackles and her defensive and attacking play on the field.

Player of the match from Rhondda went to Sophie Palmer for her unbelievable athleticism and her ability to create so much attacking play.
