Evans sees Neyland home

NEYLAND earned their second win of the season on Saturday (May 11) as they beat St Ishmaels by four wickets.

Neyland won the toss and elected to field and although they took early wickets, they could only watch as Tish made a decent total of 177-4 from their 45 overs.

Peter Bradshaw was out early on as he was caught by Patrick Bellerby off the bowling of Henry Durrant.

Harry Nicholas and Tish’s third man batted well in a stand of 55 before Nicholas was trapped leg before by Andrew Miller on a score of 19.

The third man and Phil Cockburn then added another 70 runs to the total as they also batted well together.

Nick Koomen bowled the third man on a score of 63 and Tish were now 132-3.

Koomen then had Jack Nicholas caught by Geraint Rees to reduce the visitors to 138-4.

Cockburn and Brennan Devonald batted on to the end, surviving a dropped catch along the way, as they reached a score of 177.

Devonald was not out on 18 while Cockburn hit four fours and a six to finish on a score of 54.

Nick Koomen and Patrick Bellerby got Neyland off to a good start in their reply with an opening stand of 48.

Koomen was the first man out as he was bowled by Brennan Devonald on a score of 19.

Bellerby made 39 but was later stumped by Jack Nicholas off the bowling of Andrew Williams.

Ashley Sutton was next to fall as he was caught and bowled by Andrew Pawlett on a score of 34.

Pawlett then trapped Henry Durrant leg before on a score of 17 to leave Neyland on 132-4.

Andrew Miller and George Evans then shared 34 runs for the fifth wicket taking the home side to within reach of their target.

Miller was also stumped by Nicholas off the bowling of Williams on a score of 16.

Williams also trapped Gavin Rowland leg before for a duck to give Tish some hope of derailing Neyland’s innings.

However, Evans hit five fours to finish not out on 32 to see Neyland to victory.
