First half goals send Robins to victory

PENNAR Robins earned victory on Saturday (Mar 9) thanks to two first half goals from Ben Adams and Josh Clark.

Neyland pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time and could have levelled late on but Pennar held on for a 2-1 win.

The Robins took the lead after five minutes after good play down the left from Luke Phillips and Tom Grimwood with the former playing the ball in for Sam Southcott who held the ball up for Josh Clark who fired in from 16 yards.

Twenty minutes later it was 2-0 as Nick Willis and Southcott exchanged passes and Southcott again held the ball up before rolling the ball to Ben Adams who struck the ball home.

Pennar had more chances to score but were unable to find a way past the Neyland keeper who made a number of good saves.

Neyland pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time as a free kick from wide on the right went through the middle and Mike Chandler was the only one to react to knock the ball in.

In the second half Clark again came close but the Neyland keeper made a good diving save, adjusting his position well to get a hand to it.

Ben Adams was then brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Adams picked himself up to take the penalty but his strike bounced back out off the post.

Neyland almost earned a point late on but Pennar defended well and were able to clear the ball off the line.

On Saturday (Mar 16), Pennar are at home as they take on Milford while Neyland travel to Carew.
