Monday evening saw, what was a first for Llechryd where two sides from the club faced each other
in the league.

Not only did they put out two sides, but the softball game was contested in a 10 a side match.

Llechryd (s) won the toss and decided to field first. The opening pair for Llechryd (h) of Florian Cartwright and Zeb Hallam managed to score an impressive 43 from the first 4 overs for the loss of 1 wicket taken by Amelia Evans.

Alex James and Cerith Gill looked to continue the high run rate by knocking the ball to all parts of the ground. They were kept in check by the accurate bowling of Trystan Beard and Callum Baily who both took a wicket a piece.

Some sensible batting through the middle overs by the pairs of Isobel Dunkeld with Catrin Bailey and Gwilym Wyn Jones along side Evan Young kept the scoreboard ticking over without losing any wickets.

Riley Williams and Lowri Rees Langley were the final pair of the innings. As they tried to put on as many runs as possible the bowlers seized the opportunity and wickets were picked up by Noah Davies, Cornelia Harries and Lili Rees Langley. One of them the result of a superb one handed catch by Oscar Patrick. The innings finished on 331-5.

Llechryd (s) needed to get off to a quick start chasing a high total. Bryce Franklin and Luke Wilson got
things underway. Some initial big hitting was responded to by the fielding team with wickets for Alex and Cerith.

After Gwilym had taken an early wicket against the new pair of Dewi Morris and Callum things could have got tight, but they responded with some good running between the wickets with the odd boundary.

Some terrific bowling by Evan and Catrin, taking a wicket each, put some real pressure on Cornelia and Amelia but they didn’t panic and recovered well. Lili and Noah came in and kept out the bowlers and set up the final pair.

Oscar and Trystan still had plenty to do but they looked to take the attack to the opposition. 5 boundaries were hit in the final 2 overs of the game but unfortunately Llechryd (s) came up just short finishing on 323-3.

This was a great night for the club and really highlights the thriving junior section we currently have. A big thanks to all the coaches and parents who make it possible.
