Lawrenny end season with nine-wicket win over Town

LAWRENNY ended their 2022 campaign with a nine-wicket win over relegated Haverfordwest on Saturday, (Aug 20).

Lawrenny won the toss and chose to field first and they were able to restrict Town to 188-7 from their 45 overs.

Town lost James Marchant early on but Mikey Jones and Ben Field added 59 runs for the second wicket.

Field hit four fours in his score of 27 but he was then caught by Finley Lewis off the bowling of Harry Thomas.

Dai Davies joined Jones at the crease and the pair shared another 72 runs for the fourth wicket.

Davies hit four fours in his score of 30 before retiring and soon after, Dan Potter was caught by Ryan Morton off the bowling of Troy Purslowe.

That left Town on 148-3 but more wickets began to fall. Jones had batted well for his score of 73 (10 fours) but he was then caught by Joe Kidney.

Chris Phillips scored 12 before being bowled by

Ryan Morton then bolwed Jack Scriven before also claiming the wicket of Ashley James. He had hit a six in his late score of 19 but he was caught by Purslowe.

Harry Thomas and Finley Lewis opened up for the visitors and they shared 58 runs for the first wicket.

Lewis was caught by Ashley James off the bowling of Will Phillips.

Thomas and James Phillips were then untroubled as they guided Lawrenny to their target. Thomas finished unbeaten on an excellent score of 106 while Phillips was not out on 63.

The result sees Lawrenny finish in seventh place while Town’s relegation to Division 2 had already been confirmed.

Town will look to end their season on a high though as next Saturday they face Llangwm in the final of the Harrison Allen Bowl.
