CONGRATULATIONS to Carwyn Evans on his MS Charity Day at Carmarthen Golf Club.

There were 23 teams of four in a Texas Scramble format. The cause was supported both on and off the course, with a raffle and auction raising £3,100. All proceeds will be going to the local MS Team at Morriston Hospital Swansea.

The Lynn James Cup is played for by all golfers who have scored par or better in a club competition during the season and this year’s winner was Ian Griffiths with a nett 72, beating David Crane on a better back nine with Ian Ritchie third with a nett 74.

The Seniors also recently began on their varied winter programme. First off was a Lone Ranger Competition; this consists of teams of three with the lowest handicap being the Lone Ranger on the first hole, middle handicapper on the second and highest on the third, with this repeated for the rest of the round.

There are two stableford scores to count on each hole, one of which must be the Lone Ranger. Coming out on top were Josh Williams, Gary Thomas and Jeff Jones with an excellent 81 points, followed by Peter Ashley-Jones, Martin Phillips and Clive Evans with 79 points and Rodri Davies, Chris Smith and Rob Thomas with 78 points in third.

Also, all the sections within the club – Tigers A, Tigers B, Knights, Seniors, Ladies and Juniors – played for the Treacy Trophy. Each team is represented by six pairs who play a greensome foursome stableford format with the five best cards counting.

The Tigers A showed their quality by taking the trophy. With their five best cards averaging more than 40, this proved far too good for the rest of the field. Tigers B and the Knights tied for second.

The evening culminated in the annual presentation, with the winners that were able to attend pictured with their trophies.
