Neyland land Sutton Cup with win over Llangwm

NEYLAND claimed the Sutton Cup on Saturday (Apr 9) as they beat Llangwm 5-42 at Pill Parks.

Both sides had players missing for the game but both gave a committed performance in what is always a fiercely-contested fixture.

Henry McBeth got the ball rolling for the Pembrokeshire All Blacks with the first try of the game.

Matt Coles then scored Neyland’s second before Jay Johnstone went over for their third.

Ollie Rotheroe added one conversion and one penalty and Neyland held a 20-0 lead at the break.

They soon earned a bonus point in the second half as McBeth went over for his second and Neyland’s fourth try of the game.

Ashley Sutton then went over, running out wide before touching down and Prop Luke Dawes also went over for Neyland. Rotheroe added one more conversion.

Yale Grice pulled a try back for Llangwm late on as the Wasps did not give up despite suffering a number of injuries.

Afterwards, Phil Sutton presented the Sutton Cup to Neyland’s captain.

Neyland’s next game is scheduled for April 30, at home against Lampeter.
