RGC go second after seeing off Swansea

RGC moved up to second place in the Indigo Premiership on Saturday (Feb 19) as they beat Swansea 29-14 at Parc Eirias.

Over 900 fans were in attendance for the game and they saw RGC take an early lead as some good hands from Sam Earl-Jones and Zach Clow set up Rhodri King to score. The conversion from Dion Jones made it 7-0.

Swansea looked to get themselves on the scoreboard and they played the ball out wide but RGC got a foot to the loose ball. Harri Evans kicked it on from halfway and Matt Buchanan finished with pace. Dion Jones missed conversion and the score stayed at 12-0.

RGC then had Jordan Scott sin binned for ten minutes and soon after Swansea did get their first points of the game.

Cameron Jones scored the try and Cai Evans added the extras.

Soon after Swansea scored their second try as Connor Tantum went over in the corner and Evans then added the extras to put the visitors ahead.

They attacked again but some good defending from RGC saw Swansea held up on the line.

Swansea held a narrow two-point lead at the break and both sides knew the first score of the second half could prove crucial.

The hosts were given a penalty and opted to kick at goal but Dion Jones sent his kick wide.

Despite that miss it was RGC who got the next score as the pack went over the line with King touching down for his second try of the game. Jones added the extras to make it 19-14 to the home side.

Jones added a penalty to push RGC into an eight-point lead and Swansea’s hopes of getting back into the game weren’t helped by a yellow card to Liam Seaward.

In the closing stages Brodie Coughlan went over for the home side’s fourth try to earn a bonus point.

Jones then added the extras to make it 29-14 to the home side and soon after the referee blew for full time.

Swansea will look to bounce back on Saturday, February 26, when they travel to Carmarthen to take on the Quins, kick off 1pm.

RGC’s next game is scheduled for Saturday, March 5, when they host Ebbw Vale.
