Town begin with win over Saundersfoot

HAVERFORDWEST kicked their 2022 season off with a convincing 146-run win over Saundersfoot on Sunday (Apr 24).

The Town were indebted to a fifth wicket stand of 144 between Dai Davies and Chris Phillips as they posted 284-6 from their 45 overs.

Nikhil Mathias departed early on before Ben Field (33) and Jake Merry (36) both made scores in the thirties before falling.

Dan Field was then caught off the bowling of John Mansbridge as Town were reduced to 100-4.

However, Davies and Phillips took over with the former reaching his century while the latter claimed a half-century.

Phillips hit six fours in his score of 51 but he was also out to the bowling of John Mansbridge.

Davies had hit sixteen fours and a six in his knock of 106 but he was then bowled as he looked to push the score on.

Ashley James hit a four and three sixes in a late score of 33 not out to help Town to their total.

In reply, Saundersfoot lost openers Simon Stanford and Paul Mansbridge early on as the visitors slipped to 12-2.

Sam Franklin and John Mansbridge led the recovery with a third-wicket stand of 77 but Mansbridge was then caught by Dai Davies off the bowling of Will Phillips on a score of 21 (3 fours).

Tucker then had Danny Brace stumped by Jack Scriven for a duck and soon after, he had Nav Kawale trapped leg before.

That left Saundersfoot on 104-7 and although Dominic Green made a late score of 16 it wasn’t enough to prevent defeat for the visitors.

Saundersfoot were bowled out for 138 as Town secured a 20-point win.

On Sunday, May 1, Haverfordwest host Llangwm while Saundersfoot travel to Carew.
