Vikings see off Hundleton to close gap

HAKIN United closed the gap to leaders Goodwick United to seven points as they beat Hundleton 7-1 on Saturday (Jan 22).

Prior to the match Hakin showed off their new kit, courtesy of long-term sponsors Manderwood, and the club expressed their thanks for their continued support.

It didn’t take the hosts long to get on the scoresheet as the game was just six minutes old when the first goal went in.

The ball was played to Leon Luby who played an excellent cross-field ball to Shane Walsh who beat the defender and then the keeper with a right-footed effort.

Three minutes later it was 2-0 as Camron Thomas found Jayden Chapman who fizzed a cross in from the byline and Walsh was on hand to tap the ball in.

To their credit Hundleton battled well and it remained 2-0 to the hosts when the half time whistle went.

Just three minutes into the second half though Hakin had their third as Craig Nicholson won the ball well before finding Thomas who in turn found Chapman who crossed into the box for Justin Harding to volley home from close range.

It was 4-0 eight minutes later as Hakin again won the ball back before Thomas found Justin Harding who hit home from the penalty spot.

Hundleton then pulled a goal back as Joe Buckle pounced on a mistake by Jay Power to find Billy Davis who found the back of the net.

With twenty minutes to go Luby broke down the right before crossing into the box and Thomas headed the ball back across goal and into the net.
