West Wales trio earn seventh place finish in French motorcross endurance race

TWO people from Pembrokeshire and a third from Ceredigion have become the first Welsh team to compete at the 12-hour Pont-De-Vaux Enduro race in France.

James Bevan and Simon Hammersley from Pembrokeshire and Dafydd Davies finished a respectable seventh place out of 76 teams.

The event featured teams from the USA and across Europe.

The team took part in qualifying on Friday night (Aug 26) and finished in fifth place to set themselves up nicely for the race on Saturday.

The team entered the event after receiving sponsorship from AJ Willcock for a bike.

The three riders compete at Pro Level in Quad Motorcross in the UK while James and Dafydd had both competed in the Endurance race as part of other teams.

James was keen to get three solid Welsh riders for the event which has been going for 35 years.

The event was split into three 4-hour sessions over 2 days with the riders having to endure 8 hours in 30 degree heat and a night session.

All three riders will now continue their motocross season within the Pro Class at Nora Mx, and are planning to go back to do the 12 Hour enduro in France in 2023 with the aim of beating this years’ result.
