Young Otters claim Mike Fry Cup with thrilling win over Crymych

THE final of the Mike Fry under 17 Cup was a rerun of the recent Griffiths 18 Cup with Narberth and Crymych once again squaring up against each other.

Crymych were desperate to overturn their defeat in the under 18 cup and came out firing on all cylinders.

This was again an excellent game of rugby. The tackling was unrelenting and space was at a premium. Narberth scored first with a penalty from Fraser Jones. Crymych then enjoyed a period of pressure resulting in a well taken try from scrum half Tomos Davies converted by Macs Page.

Narberth struck back with a good try. A well timed pass from Wil Nicholas gave Max Morgan some space to score in the corner. A brilliant conversion from Fraser Jones made the score 10-7 going into half time.

The second half continued with no quarter given and after an exchange of penalties the game was poised at 16 13 to Narberth. There then came the deciding score when the well drilled Narberth pack set up a driving maul from a line out which Crymych were unable to stop and Yori Morgan scored.

Despite throwing everything at them, Narberth stood firm and finished victorious at 21-13. Outstanding for Crymych was Iestyn Wood, the ever threatening Macs Page and tireless flanker Aneirin Vaughan.

For Narberth ,strong runners James Price and Fraser Jones stood out but it was the forwards who won the game for them. Joel Davies had a stormer of game , carrying well and initiating counter rucks to great effect.

However man of the match went to Kyle Day who tackled ferociously and carried the ball with purpose time after time. A superb game of rugby and another piece of silverware for the Narberth trophy cabinet.
