VOLKSWAGEN is stuck with a rude Instagram name that can’t be changed.
The car manufacturing giant operates in 130 countries worldwide and often merges the company’s name with each nation.
But Instagram handle for its Italian branch mixes ‘Volkswagen’ with ‘Italia’ to create the word ‘genitalia’ at the end
The apparent marketing failure remains the official name for its Instagram page, @volkswagenitalia.
According to the Instagram help page once verified a user “may not change the username on your account.”
Noticing the mishap one bemused VW fan, called Mick, wrote: “Volkswagen Italy, please never change your Instagram handle.”
Ariel Greenwood said: “I’ll never see the logo the same way again.”
One named Simon said: “It was a joke 20-odd years a go that the electric company Powergen would never be able to open an Italian branch, for much the same reason.
“They’ve changed their name since then, so the joke is gone, but I’m highly amused that it’s actually happened for real with VW.”
Andy added: “They can’t, once you become verified on IG you’re not allowed to. So we are stuck with this gem.”
Lea Benson joked: “That’s what they are after “Clean diesel”.
Someone else added: Will be a very popular handle.
“Marketing genius whoever came up with it. It sure has got the eyeballs.”
Another person said: “I thought the car company had a genius marketing strategy – sexy cars.”
“The 15 year old in me giggled at this. So did the 44 year old,” added another social media user.
