14 rescued during golf preparations

screen-shot-2016-09-13-at-11-24-27BURRY PORT RNLI volunteers preparing for a charity golf tournament on Saturday (Aug 27) came to the aid of a group of people cut off by the tide in the Old Pembrey Harbour.

After the volunteers noticed the group and informed Milford Haven Coastguard, the ILB ‘Diane Hilary’ was immediately launched, crewed by Rob Davies at helm, and supported by Jared Phillips and Kevin Lloyd, and was quickly on scene, proceeding to ferry 14 people to the safety of the beach.

Just after 5pm, a call was made to Milford Haven Coastguard to assist a report of an elderly swimmer in difficulty off Burry Port Lighthouse.

Again the ILB was launched, crewed by Rob Davies at helm, with a crew of Nathan Gower and Rhydian Bowen. The swimmer was found but did not need assistance, so the volunteer crew made a sweep of the area to ensure no-one else needed any help.

A spokesperson said it was ‘a busy bank holiday afternoon for our crews, in a very busy and jam-packed Harbour area’.
